How to use this calculator
Choose the value to find: pace, elapsed time or distance. Enter the other two. Pace uses minutes and seconds per selected distance unit; time uses hours, minutes and seconds. Try a 5K, 10K, half-marathon or marathon distance preset.
The math behind it
Pace = elapsed time / distance Time = pace × distance Distance = time / pace Speed in km/h = kilometers / seconds × 3,600 1 mile = 1.609344 kilometers
A worked example
Covering 5 km in 25 minutes gives 5:00 min/km, about 8:03 min/mile, and 12 km/h. At that constant pace, 10 km takes 50 minutes.
Assumptions & precision
Positive distances and durations. Elapsed minute/second components must be below 60; pace minutes can exceed 59. Assumes constant average pace with no adjustments for elevation, weather, fatigue or stops. This is arithmetic, not a training or race-performance prediction. Time and pace round to the nearest second; distance shows three decimals.
A common question
Is 5.5 minutes per kilometer the same as 5:50?
No. Half a minute is 30 seconds, so 5.5 minutes equals 5:30. Enter 5 in Pace minutes and 30 in Pace seconds.
