How to use this calculator
Use amounts for a single pay period. Enter gross pay, pre-tax deductions, an estimated combined withholding percentage and post-tax deductions. Supply the rate yourself from a suitable source or payslip.
The math behind it
Estimated withholding = (gross pay − pre-tax deductions) × rate ÷ 100 Estimated net = gross pay − pre-tax deductions − estimated withholding − post-tax deductions
A worked example
For 2,000 gross pay, 100 pre-tax deductions, an assumed 20% withholding rate and 50 post-tax deductions, withholding is 380 and take-home pay is 1,470.
Assumptions & precision
A simplified gross-to-net estimator, not a jurisdiction-specific tax calculator. No tax brackets, filing status, tax-year data, state/local rules, social contributions or separate tax bases are modeled. The entered rate applies uniformly after pre-tax deductions, which is not how every real deduction or tax works. Net pay cannot be negative. Confirm actual withholding with your payroll provider. Currency changes display only; no exchange-rate conversion. Money is rounded only for display using the currency’s fractional digits. Results above 10¹⁵ are rejected.
A common question
Does this calculate my actual income tax?
No. It uses the percentage you supply as an estimate. Payroll withholding and final tax liability depend on rules and circumstances outside this model.
