How to use this calculator

Choose Total points and enter earned and possible points for each assignment. Or choose Weighted scores, enter a percentage score for each completed category, and give its percentage weight in the whole course. Add and remove rows as needed. Switching modes restores example rows.

The math behind it

Points grade = total earned ÷ total possible × 100
Weighted grade = sum(score × weight) ÷ sum(completed weights)

A worked example

45 out of 50 and 80 out of 100 give 125 ÷ 150 × 100 = 83.333333%. A score of 80% at 20% course weight and 90% at 30% course weight gives a current grade of 86% across 50% of the course.

Assumptions & precision

Weighted scores normalize only the weights you enter; unfinished work is not counted as zero. Total weights must be above 0% and at most 100% (with a tiny tolerance for decimal arithmetic). A zero-weight category contributes nothing. Earned and possible points may be decimal values; possible points must be positive. Scores above possible points or above 100% are allowed as extra credit. Up to 100 rows; scores and possible points are capped at 1,000,000. Results show up to 6 decimal places without rounding intermediate values; results above 10¹⁵ are rejected.
