How to use this calculator
Enter launch speed in meters per second, angle above horizontal, and positive gravity in meters per second squared.
The math behind it
Vertical velocity = speed × sin(angle) Flight time = 2 × vertical velocity ÷ gravity Maximum height = vertical velocity² ÷ (2 × gravity) Range = speed × cos(angle) × flight time
A worked example
At 10 m/s, 45° and gravity 10 m/s², range is 10 m, maximum height is 2.5 m and flight time is about 1.414214 s.
Assumptions & precision
Same launch and landing height, constant downward gravity and no air resistance. Angles 0°–90°; speed can be zero. A horizontal launch from the landing height has zero flight time. The default 9.81 m/s² is an approximation, editable for your model. Unrounded intermediate values; results display up to 6 decimal places. Magnitudes above 10¹⁵ are rejected.
A common question
Can I model a projectile launched from a cliff?
This version assumes equal launch and landing heights. A cliff requires a different time-of-flight calculation.
